I was commissioned to work with the director to design and build the set for the musical Kipps. We loved the idea of Kipps memoir being played out as he’s writing it, so we came up with the idea to build a very large typewriter as the centre piece for the set. The venue has old, tiered choir raises at the back of the stage that are usually masked but with our typewriter design we were able to make use of these and build it into the stage. Wing space is also very limited so the desgin allowed us to use the keys of the typewriter as benches and stools.
